# Description of Changes
Adds the code for the SaaS frontend as proprietary code to the OSS repo.
This version of the code is adapted from 22/1/2026, which was the last
SaaS version based on the 'V2' design. This will move us closer to being
able to have the OSS products understand whether the user has a SaaS
account, and provide the correct UI in those cases.

Upgrades embedPDF from v2.5.0 to v2.6.0 and migrates from unmaintained
pdf-lib to @cantoo/pdf-lib fork. Adds defensive error handling for
malformed PDFs and improves bridge lifecycle management.

- Upgrade all @embedpdf/* packages from ^2.5.0 to ^2.6.0
- Replace pdf-lib with @cantoo/pdf-lib (maintained fork with better
TypeScript support)

- Implement defensive bridge cleanup to prevent stale registrations

Preserve local paths for desktop saves ( #5543 )

# Summary
- Adds desktop file tracking: local paths are preserved and save buttons
now work as expcted (doing Save/Save As as appropriate)
- Adds logic to track whether files are 'dirty' (they've been modified
by some tool, and not saved to disk yet).
- Improves file state UX (dirty vs saved) and close warnings
- Web behaviour should be unaffected by these changes
## Indicators
Files now have indicators in desktop mode to tell you their state.

# Limitations
- It's a bit weird that we still have files stored in indexeddb in the
app, which are still loadable. We might want to change this behaviour in
the future
- Viewer's Save doesn't persist to disk. I've left that out here because
it'd need a lot of testing to make sure the logic's right with making
sure you can leave the Viewer with applying the changes to the PDF
_without_ saving to disk
- There's no current way to do Save As on a file that has already been
persisted to disk - it's only ever Save. Similarly, there's no way to
duplicate a file.

## OCR / Tesseract path handling
Makes tessDataPath resolution deterministic with priority: config >
TESSDATA_PREFIX env > default.
Updates language discovery to use runtimePathConfig.getTessDataPath()
instead of raw config value.
Ensure default OCR dir is debian based not alpine
## Mobile scanner: feature gating + new conversion settings
Adds system.mobileScannerSettings (convert-to-PDF + resolution + page
format + stretch) exposed via backend config and configurable in the
proprietary admin UI.
Enforces enableMobileScanner on the MobileScannerController endpoints
(403 when disabled).
Frontend mobile upload flow can now optionally convert received images
to PDF (pdf-lib + canvas).
## Desktop/Tauri connectivity work
Expands tauri-plugin-http permissions and enables dangerous-settings.
Adds a very comprehensive multi-stage server connection diagnostic
routine (with lots of logging).

added a flag to hide settings ( #5263 )

Added an optional flag in settings.yml to hide the settings button in no
login servers. When hidden, users can no longer:
- Open the Settings modal at all (gear button is hidden)
- Change General preferences (tool picker mode, hide unavailable
tools/conversions, auto‑unzip and file limit)
- Configure keyboard shortcuts (Hotkeys / Keyboard Shortcuts section)
- Use the in‑app update checker UI (see current/latest version, check
for updates, view update details)
- Note: When enableLogin === true, the flag is ignored and the Settings
button remains visible.

Show uneditable annotations on viewer
show editable annotations layer when in annotation tools (sign, add
image, add text)
Remove draw tool from viewer (this is replaced wholesale in an upcoming
PR so it wasn't worth doing the work to ensure it worked with the new
annotation layer set up_)
refactoring work, mostly renaming variables we can use for all
annotation based tools that had sign specific names.
remove "tools" tooltip

- Workbench.tsx: Allow PDF text editor to handle it's own custom state
(this is a bit of a hotfix, we're going to handle the PDF text editors
file upload flow better in a future PR).
- PdfTextEditorView.tsx: Added a dropzone and some helper text to upload
the first file.
- PdfTextEditorView.tsx: Hide document view when isConverting is true.
Prevents showing stale content from previous file during conversion.
- useTranslatedToolRegistry.tsx: Moved PDF Text Editor to top of
Recommended tools list. Increased visibility of the new feature.
- PdfTextEditor.tsx: Removed auto-navigation to PDF Editor workbench on
file selection. Stops the "jumpy" behavior when selecting files.
- HomePage.tsx: Check specifically for pdfTextEditor tool instead of any
custom workbench. Prevents auto-switch to viewer when uploading files
while in PDF Text Editor.

Fix: Only block export when signatures are placed but not applied ( #5084 )

Previously, activating signature placement mode would immediately set
signaturesApplied=false, blocking export even when no signatures were
actually placed on the PDF. This caused the "unapplied signatures"
warning to appear incorrectly after clicking "Apply Signatures".
Changes:
- Remove signaturesApplied=false from activateDrawMode and
activateSignaturePlacementMode in SignatureContext
- Add signaturesApplied=false to onAnnotationEvent handler in
SignatureAPIBridge when event.type === 'create'
- Now signatures are only marked as unapplied when actually placed
This ensures:
- Users can activate placement mode without triggering export warning
- Export is only blocked when signatures are actually placed but not
applied
- After applying signatures, users can immediately export without
warning

Fix backend issues in desktop app ( #4995 )

# Description of Changes
Fixes two distinct but related issues in the backend of the desktop app:
- Correctly shows tools as unavaialable when the backend doesn't have
the dependencies or has disabled them etc. (same as web version - this
primarily didn't work on desktop because the app spawns before the
backend is running)
- Fixes infinite re-rendering issues caused by the app polling whether
the backend is healthy or not

## Summary
- add a `PdfJsonConversionService` that serializes PDF text, fonts, and
metadata to JSON and rebuilds a PDF from the same structure
- expose REST endpoints for `/pdf/json` and `/json/pdf` conversions
using the existing convert API infrastructure
- define JSON model classes capturing document metadata, font
information, and positioned text elements

Differentiate unavailable tools by reason ( #4916 )

## Summary
- track endpoint disable reasons server-side and expose them through a
new `/api/v1/config/endpoints-availability` API that the frontend can
consume
- refresh the web UI tool management logic to cache endpoint details,
compute per-tool availability metadata, and show reason-specific
messaging (admin disabled vs missing dependency) when a tool cannot be
launched
- add the missing en-GB translations for the new unavailability labels
so the UI copy reflects the new distinction
